The Blackrock Craft Fair

HI all!

The second Blackrock Craft Fair will take place on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd November 2009 in Blackrock, Co Dublin. Over 20 stall holders will come together to sell handmade crafts including handbags, Christmas cards, children’s clothes, mosaics and artwork. There will be a Winter Cafe upstairs too with space for a cuppa and quiet read of the paper.

It’s a definite date for the diary for those early Christmas purchases when there’s still plenty of time to browse and take in the warm winter atmosphere.

If you are interested in booking a stand at this fair please email belinda@urban-junction.com for more information and an application form.

a FancyPicnic anyone?

Last week the lovely Charlotte from www.fancypicnic.etsy.com (vibrant juicy textile art at its best) featured my work in her gorgeous blog www.fancypicnic.blogspot.com as part of her weekly (and super popular) 'Shopping list' feature. I was so delighted to be included and me being me, very cheekily invited her to consider making an all Irish shopping list- yeah I know! So here we are and a week later there it is! Go on then & have a peek - it just goes to show if you don't ask.... you don't get! T xoxo ;)*

P.S Charlotte and her hubby also run a very stylish etsy shop for all the wood lovers out there. I know I'm one of them! www.thelogbasket.etsy.com

Well, they changed a few items, but the bulk of it is still there. I'm thrilled as this is the first time one of my items has made it to the front page! Howdy!

Thought that I would drop a line about my handmade whats-it's and what-nots that I sell under the name, artysmarty. Based in Dublin city centre, I squirrel away in my studio in Broadstone, making women's purses, passport holders, earrings, neckalces, pins and badges as well as some other baby items with funky fabrics. I really love the fabrics that I use, mostly they are Japanese designers, but some are designers in the UK making original, handmade prints, as here for this i-pod cover.

All of the items I make are 100% handmade and I love looking on other blogs and web sites to see what other crafty types are making and what techniques they are using. I trained in ceramics at university in Tasmania and also at post grad level in Sydney which has been a great basis but I also get great inspiration from customers, who often have great ideas and love to chat about their own crafts and interests.

If you want to come and have a look at some of my items in the flesh, come to May Fly (next to the Cake Cafe), The Dublin Flea Market or the Bernard Shaw Car Boot Sale. Love to have a chat to you there!

Delighted to make your Acquaintance, I'm Sure.

Well hey there! I'm Edana of The Sailmaker's Daughter where jewellery and accessories for hair and home abound.
My biggest problem when it comes to crafting is staying still long enough to hone in on one method before flitting off to try something else. If I'm not sewing, I'm gluing and if I'm not gluing I'm assembling or drawing. J' *simply* adore fabric, always buying it always looking for ways to use it. I tend to doodle on fabric, more than paper, with either embroidery thread or fabric markers.

What about all this delightful weather then? Marvelous environment for some outdoor crafting, crochet in the park for me. How nice is this hand-spun wool I picked up at the Dublin Flea Market in New Market square (also home of the Crafty Market).

Hope to see ya'll at the coming Etsy Ireland meetings and also around the Etsy community.

I'll show you mine if....

Doesn't everyone love a nosey in other peoples studio or workspace??? I know i do! I love seeing all the interesting things hanging around and the way they have laid out their space!

I thought i would start the ball rolling with this, a little snippet of my brand new studio and i gotta say it is AMAZING to finally have my own space! my little haven...

as we have only just moved in, it isn't quite lived in yet, and i think i may have to do a little moving around.
This is a little inspiration corner, or just things that make me happy corner..

The other side of the room is not, shall we say, beautiful at the moment, but it is functional... the sewing machine and Andrew filing cabinet for his photography, its an old school cabinet, it has graffiti on the top of it, you know the usual " Peter Michaels was 'ere" variety. We love it!

that's all for the moment, but i will be putting little sneak peaks of the stuff i have been happily making in my little space, on my blog.

Lets see your now!

The Crafty Market

Yvonne & Tarsila www.yvonnekennedy.etsy.com

Judith www.aboxformytreasure.etsy.com

Had great fun at the recent Crafty Market in Dublin - great festive atmosphere as usual, met lots of creative folk and familiar faces from the team too. Applications are now being taken for the October 4th Market so if you are interested in taking up a stall then make sure you get in there before the deadline on Monday, September 14th - Good luck! ;)*
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
"The Crafty Market is an exciting new Art & Crafts Market in Dublin's Coombe district, a five minutes' walk from St. Patrick's Cathedral. On the first Sunday of each month 45 stall holders set out their wares in an indoor market for you to browse and buy. Don't pay through the nose for handicrafts in exclusive shops when you can purchase them straight from the artist in a fun market environment where haggling is encouraged."

New season, new art

For the last couple of weeks, I have been busy moving house recently, and one of the more fun things we have been doing is setting up a room totally dedicated to a studio! Yay!

Initially i thought it would just be mine, mine all mine! But then i realized that is just silly when i have a husband as talented as mine!

Andrew is a photographer and mainly specializes in abstract art. He has some locally inspired work from around Dublin, Ireland, and also some from travels around the world in far flung places such as Belize, Melbourne and Burkino Faso. He does have an Etsy shop (admittedly looking a little grim) and also a web page.

Do visit and drop a line!! Everyone loves a convo!

* * * So Berry Good Pud! * * *

It's pretty wet and miserable here in Ireland today so I thought I'd share this recipe to remind you of cosy autumn. If you are on a diet then please look away now..... (putting on my best Nigella pout!)

Its called Plum & Blackberry Crumble Pudding, it is delish, seasonal and very very tasty and really easy to make. It will serve 6 regular people and maybe 8 skinny carb conscious people. I make it once {twice if lucky} every year, when the brambles are brimmimng with ripe fruit. If you are a townie (as I know a lot of you are!) don't worry, you can try finding them in the shops or alternate the berry quantity with figs, cooking apples or rhubarb. We are going for tartiness, so don't try fruit that is too sweet otherwise this will be too cloying and heavy.

**********************************************************************************

Plum & Blackberry Crumble Pudding
For the Crumble Mixture...
5 oz. Plain Flour
2 oz. Demerara Sugar
3 oz. Good Old Fashioned Butter, cut into pieces
2 oz. Finely chopped Toasted Hazelnut

For the Juicy Filling....
1 lb 9 oz. Ripe Plums, Stoned & Quartered {Roughly 2 punnets}
9 oz. Blackberries {Get out there and enjoy picking these!}
2 oz. Golden Caster Sugar
1 tbsp. Plain Flour

**********************************************************************************
...Heat the Oven to 200c or Fan 180c...

  1. Make the Crumble - mix the flour and sugar in a bowl, then rub in the butter pieces to make a fairly lumpy crumb mixture {love this bit} Stir in the Hazelnuts if you like {not essential but very nice}
  2. Make the Filling - Mix the sugar and flour together, pop your plums and berries into an ovenproof dish and then toss gently with the sugary mix until golden and syrupy.
  3. Level out the fruit and sprinkle your lumpy crumb on top.
  4. Bake for 40-45 mins, you know your oven better than I so don't blame me for burnt crumble!
  5. The Easy Bit - Dish out warm and serve with custard or vanilla ice cream. A hot cup of tea is compulsory to cut the sweet tartiness of the pud. Enjoy :)*

So what have you recently listed that just screams Autumn???
Please leave a link in the comments area and perhaps your item will be featured here on the blog! thanx a mill! T xox
